Lichen Planus
Lichen planus (like-en play-nes) is a skin condition that causes a rash to develop on one area
of your body, Skin, Oral cavity, Scalp, Nails, Genitals.
It is an idiopathic autoimmune condition that causes inflammation in your skin. Anyone can
get lichen planus but more likely to develop between 30 and 60 years old and assigned female at
birth. If you have lichen planus on your skin, you’re 50% to 75% more likely to have it in your mouth.
Lichen planus commonly affects the skin around your wrists and elbows, the back of your
hands and the fronts of your lower legs.
Lichen planus symptoms depend on where it’s affecting your body:
- small, round like tip of a pin, raised dots can develop on your skin, including your genitals. They may also develop into sores.
- Tiny white dots may develop on the skin inside of your cheeks, your tongue or your lips.
- Nails may change colors, brittle, stop growing in length and easily fall off.
