Cold sores also known as herpes labialis result from a herpes simplex type 1 viral infection. It appears as a blister and crust formation around the lips corners and the skin. The viral disease is contagious and can reoccur at any time after primary infection. In the early stage, a tingling sensation, itching or irritation, leading to the development of highly infectious fluid-filled small blisters and after busting leading to crusting, with complete healing mostly occurring within one to two weeks.
